German diamond tool manufacturer Lach Diamant has been developing chipbreakers for PCD tools for nearly 10 years and is a technological pioneer in this field. The company acquired the first PCD chipbreaker technology patent in January 1999, which was developed specifically for the application of PCD tools in the aerospace and automotive industries.
In recent years, there has been a large trend in the aerospace and automotive industries using lightweight aluminum alloy materials, with the aim of reducing the weight of aircraft and automobiles, thereby reducing the need for drive power. Some high-strength forged aluminum alloys pose a serious problem in processing due to the tendency to produce harmful ribbon-shaped chips and spiral chips during cutting. Recently, Lach has made new developments in superhard tool chipbreaker technology, introducing a new PCBN cutting insert with chipbreaker under the trade name CBN-DUO-power, which was held in Stuttgart, Germany in 2008. Debut at the AMB exhibition.
These CBN chipbreaker inserts developed by Lach through the dreborid program are recommended for cutting gray cast iron with positive rake angles and for finishing hardened steel. In both processes, the innovative design of the chipbreaker prevents the creation of undesirable ribbon and spiral chips.
