Teijin Yamamoto: There are many opportunities in China

Today, the world's chemical fiber structure is still undergoing profound changes. As the world's leading provider of high-performance chemical materials, what steps will the Teijin Japan take to consolidate its high-end position? At the “Twelfth Five-Year” development stage with Chinese characteristics, how will the Teijin seize new opportunities to expand the Chinese market? Teijin China's general representative and the general manager of Teijin (China) Investment Co., Ltd. Shan Benquan recently received an interview on related issues.

Highly concerned about the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, Yamamoto believes that the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” is a new phase of China’s development and is also a good time for Teijin to expand the Chinese market. Since last year, Teijin Group has paid great attention to China's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and has organized personnel to study relevant contents and learn about the development ideas of China's related industries in the next five years. Among them, Mr. Yamamoto is deeply impressed with the contents of the 12th Five-Year Plan for China's environmental protection and improvement of people’s living standards. He believes that Teijin’s advanced technologies in the chemical recycling of recycled polyester and environmentally friendly water treatment technologies can be It will play an increasingly important role in China. The promotion and application of these technologies will help China achieve relevant goals. Teijin is studying to combine its own advanced technology with Chinese characteristics and apply the improved technologies adapted to China's needs to China.

At present, Teijin has 12 companies and 2,500 employees in China, and has formed two large-scale business systems - synthetic fiber and resin business. Nantong Teijin Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the processing of polyester textiles, was established in 1994. It mainly produces functional polyester textiles for sportswear and other fields. Teijin Automotive Fabrics (Nantong) Co., Ltd. also uses Japanese technology to produce automotive textiles in China, which is an important direction for future development. The resin products are mainly operated by Teijin Chemicals Co., Ltd.

Last year, Teijin established Teijin (China) Investment Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, and Yamamoto Seiyu served as vice chairman and general manager. Yamamoto said that the Teijin hopes to carry out a larger-scale investment in China through this company, and at the same time optimize the allocation of Teijin’s resources in China and improve the level of business operations. By 2020, Teijin’s performance in China will increase 3 to 4 times to 400 billion yen. At present, projects related to technology transfer, research and development, and market development are being prepared and will be promoted by Teijin (China) Investment Co., Ltd. In the future, Teijin will gradually develop downstream products for high-performance fibers such as carbon fiber and aramid in China, and hope to seek opportunities in pharmaceutical and medical services to develop in China. The water treatment business has officially entered China.

Japan's recycling system is relatively perfect At the 17th China International Chemical Fiber Congress held recently, Yamamoto Ito made two keynote speeches on behalf of the Teijin Group. One was entitled "Life-changing Nanomaterials." One was entitled "Fibers." Product recovery and chemical recycling." It is not difficult to see that the Teijin hopes to speed up the transfer of advanced technologies to China and continue to develop the Chinese market in the 12th Five-Year Plan.

Teijin used non-slip golf gloves produced by Nanofront Nano Materials to attract people's attention when passing displays at the venue. The Nanofront with a diameter of 700 nm has a surface area equivalent to 10 times that of ordinary fibers, and the nanometer roughness on the surface of the fiber generates strong friction, resulting in a great grip, non-slip, dislocation-proof and fit, suitable for sports gloves, functional underwear , protective gear and other aspects. At present, China is committed to applying the scientific and technological achievements of nanotechnology and fiber materials in various fields. There is still much room for Teijin to cooperate with China in nanomaterials and technology.

In the recovery of fiber products, especially chemical regeneration technology, Teijin represents the world's most advanced level; the promotion model of the "ECO CIRCLE" regeneration cycle system constructed by Teijin has already been implemented on a global scale with remarkable results. The experience of Japan in building a recycling system is also worth learning from China. According to Yamamoto, Japan’s fiber recycling mainly includes three paths. First, recycling by local governments and non-profit organizations, local governments provide support in terms of funding and publicity; second, recovery of professional recycling companies, local governments, and non-profits. The products collected by the group will also be recycled by professional merchants. Third, retailers of textile products such as garments will recycle used products from consumers, and then recycle them to recycled merchants for recycling. In addition, the waste recovery rate of Japanese fiber factories reached more than 95%.

After years of efforts, Japan has established a relatively complete legal system for recycling and recycling, and the "Basic Law for the Promotion of a Recycling Society" as the basic framework law is the first legislative attempt in the world for a "circular society." Specific to each link, the production phase includes the “Resources Effective Utilization Promotion Law”; the consumption phase includes the “Green Purchase Law”; the laws for recycling and reuse are complete and meticulous, including the “Container Packaging Recycling and Recycling Law” and the “Appliance Recycling and Recycling Law”. Recycling and recycling methods are used in various fields; and in the waste phase, there is the Waste Disposal Act.

Developing technology and promotion models adapted to China At present, the production of carbon fiber by three companies in Japan, Teijin, Toray, and Mitsubishi accounts for about 70% of the world's production. Teijin has successful experience in the production and application of carbon fiber, aramid and other fields. It also has world advanced level in the recycling of polyester products. These aspects are the focus of China's textile and chemical fiber industry's "12th Five-year Plan" development. At the same time, although China's conventional chemical fiber products have become competitively competitive in the world, there is still a large gap between the development and application of differentiated, high-value-added products compared with developed countries. In response, Yamamoto spoke of Japan’s development of new synthetic fiber 20 years ago, which promoted a new round of development of the textile and chemical fiber industry. The current situation in China is somewhat similar to that of Japan. In summing up his experience, he believes that there are two points that must be experienced in the development process. First, it is necessary to prepare for long-term battles. The establishment of all aspects of the chemical fiber industry requires a long process. Second, it must pay full attention to the promotion of market applications. To meet the consumer demand on the basis of marketing innovation, enhance the brand effect, so that consumers are willing to pay for high-priced products. At the same time, standardization work is very important, and Yamamoto believes that standards, in particular, cannot be used to “defect.” Governments, associations, and companies must unite each other to formulate clear and detailed standards so that companies can have standards and markets can follow.

Yamamoto is very concerned about new changes in investment methods. He believes that with the rapid development of China's economy and the strong growth of domestic demand, foreign companies have increasingly diversified their investment methods in China. In the past, Japanese companies applied technology to Chinese companies for production. Now, Chinese companies have gone to Japan to acquire companies. In the past, they used China's low-cost production advantages, and foreign companies returned to China after producing and processing products in China. Therefore, technology and products were completely Copy the domestic production model. However, with the expansion of domestic demand in China and the rise in the cost of comprehensive production, this approach can no longer meet the needs. To this end, Teijin needs to specifically develop technologies and products that are suitable for China, and use domestic sales models that meet Chinese characteristics to sell in China.
