According to the "Daily Mail" report, scientists at Rice University in the United States have developed a new type of lithium-ion battery that can be charged 10 to 20 times faster than commercial lithium-ion batteries.
It is reported that scientists have used a bitumen derivative known as black pitch, which coats the black asphalt with lithium metal and adds it to the anode of the carbon sulfide material.
With black pitch, the current density of this new type of battery can be greatly increased, up to 20 milliamperes per square centimeter, which means that it is charging faster.
Rice University chemist James Tour said, “The new battery capacity is very large. It takes only 5 minutes to charge them from zero to full charge, which is far more than other lithium batteries.â€
Not only is it quick to charge, it is also safer. According to the scientific community, new types of batteries can prevent the formation of lithium dendrites (lithium dendrites can damage the battery's electrolyte, and even cause the battery to fire, explosion and other dangers).
