A hammer is a hand tool used to strike or hammer objects. The hammer consists of a hammer head and a grip handle.
â‘ Hammerhead: The material is steel, copper, lead, plastic, wood, rubber, etc. The structure has solid fixed type, exchangeable hammering surface type and bomb filling type. Solid fixed hammer heads are the most widely used. The two striking surfaces of the hammer head with interchangeable hammer head are removable and interchangeable, and can be replaced with hammer surfaces of various materials and hardness, so the striking range is large. The bullet-filled hammer head is equipped with steel shot or lead pellets, which can eliminate rebound when used, also known as non-rebound hammer. The elimination of rebound can significantly reduce operator fatigue. The hammering surfaces of one or both ends of the steel hammer head are fully heat-treated and have strong rigidity; the middle section is generally not heat-treated, has good elasticity and toughness, and can play a buffering role during the hammering process to prevent the hammer head burst. There is a hole in the center of the hammer head to facilitate the installation of the handle.
â‘¡Handle: There are wooden handle, steel handle and plastic handle made of glass fiber. The wooden handles are mostly made of hard wood such as walnut and locust wood. They have good elasticity and toughness, but they are susceptible to weather and have great flexibility. They are gradually replaced by hammer handles of the latter two materials.
The use of hammers is extremely common, with many forms and specifications. Commonly seen are round-headed hammers, claw hammers, chop hammers, and assorted hammers (Figure 1).
Ball hammer
Also known as tits hammer. It is the most widely used hand hammer in cold working. One end of it is spherical, usually used to strike rivets; the other end is a cylindrical plane, used for general hammering.
Claw Hammer
Hand hammer for woodworking. In addition to striking the generally non-hardened iron nails, the claw-shaped claws at the other end can also be used to tighten and pull out the iron nails, or to pry and tear down the wooden components.
Chop hammer
It is mainly used for striking uneven, thin and wide metal workpieces to make the surface smooth. The chopping is also used to knock flanging or make the metal thin piece extend longitudinally or laterally.
Assorted hammers
A multi-purpose maintenance tool mainly based on a hammer. The claw hammer head is equipped with a screwdriver with a Phillips screwdriver, a flat chisel, a triangular file and other accessories, and is placed in a hollow steel handle. There is a screw on one end of the handle to fix or exchange accessories.
