According to foreign media reports, Apple and wind turbine manufacturer Xinjiang Goldwind Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Goldwind Technology") set up a joint venture, which will help Apple to provide more clean energy to suppliers in mainland China.
According to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange document, Beijing Tianrun New Energy Investment Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Goldwind Technology, transferred its 30% stake in four project companies to Apple. The document did not disclose the amount of Apple investment. For the purpose of stock trading, the four project companies will remain Jinfeng Technology's subsidiaries, but their performance will not be reflected in Jinfeng Technology's financial report. The key decisions require the unanimous consent of the company's directors.
But there is no disclosure of which supplier will benefit from Apple's investment and how much clean energy Apple plans to supply. Recently, touch-protective glass panel maker Lansi Technology said that by the end of 2018, the glass production business will all adopt renewable energy, and some renewable energy will be provided by wind power generation companies in Hunan Province.
So far, Apple has relied on solar power to compensate for the non-clean energy used by suppliers to cause environmental pollution. Apple will build a solar power plant with a capacity of 200 megawatts to compensate suppliers for their environmental impact and work directly with suppliers to build more than 4 billion watts of clean energy power plants around the world, half of which are in mainland China. Foxcon, the main OEM of Apple, will build a 400 MW solar power plant to compensate for the environmental impact of the Zhengzhou iPhone production base.
