By using a "compensated base change" assay with a 93% success rate for species discrimination, the researchers found differences in the ribosomal DNA of these water-bearing urchins, confirming that they are all new species of waterflies.
According to experts, when the living environment gradually becomes dehydrated, dry, and cold, the back stratum corneum of the water-bearing worms will contract and the body will collapse into a barrel, which will stop the metabolism and resist the harm caused by the long-term extreme environment. When the external environment improves, the water bear worm can miraculously "resurrect." Researchers believe that these characteristics of water hymenoptera have research and utilization value in biomedicine and food preservation.
